KISATCHIE NATIONAL FOREST
Bring your camera, a reliable GPS, and your hiking boots and experience the diversity of the Longleaf Pine Forest. Few know that it is only second in diversity per square meter to that of the Tropical Rain Forests near the equator. Composed of a beautiful mix of ferns, wildflowers, and native grasses beneath the stately longleaf pines that cover the softly rolling hills, periodic pitcher plant bogs that contain wild orchids, and a mix of oaks and other hardwoods that are scattered in the uplands and often fill vast bottomlands and can reach massive sizes. There truly is nothing like it!
<pstyle=”text-align: left;”=””>The wild turkey and white tailed deer populations are carefully managed and are highly sought after with youth, bow, and rifle seasons offered to hunters that come from far and wide to vie for the best spots. Kisatchie National Forest also offers some excellent fishing spots filled with bream and nice sized bass making for fun trips with children and adults alike. Most ponds and Fullerton Lake are not designated for motorized craft beyond a trolling motor but are perfect for canoes, kayaks, and other small boats. You can learn more about the trails, hunting, and fishing on Kisatchie National Forest’s Vernon District here.</pstyle=”text-align:>
